Kinderhut International is a global NGO (Non-governmental organisation), registered in Indonesia and with head office in International Humanitarian City - Dubai.
Our primary interest lies in the long-term systematic care of orphan children and destitute women, by integrating them back into secure family structures in our dedicated premises. Kinderhut also provides quality education, vocational training and domestic support to every child.
The Kinderhut Foundation is managed and supported by a team of leading professionals and entrepreneurs in the United Arab Emirates from diverse nationalities. The organisation is non-sectarian in character and works for the rehabilitation of children in the spirit of the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child.
Kinderhut Village at Banda Aceh, Indonesia
The foundation set up the first Kinderhut Village for orphan children and destitute women in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, one of worst hit Tsunami areas in the world. The institution today is home to over 110 children and 20 mothers (destitute women). The facility will house a total of 150 children and 30 mothers in the near future. Kinderhut is now setting up similar projects in other needy areas of the world.
Student Volunteer Programme at Kinderhut Village, Banda Aceh
Kinderhut International is seeking student volunteers with skills and exprerience in the following areas:
1. English Language teaching for elementary level students
2. Computer education for young children
3. Training in extra curricular activities like sports, arts, photography and painting
4. Teaching another language besides English like Arabic
5. Management skills to help improve the administrative structure
6. Academic skills in improving the existing curriculum provided in Kinderhut
7. Counselling programme for women under our care as well as personality development programmes for children
8. Training in special skills like tailoring, carpentry, embroidery, crafts and souvenir making, especially as vocational training for women

About Banda Aceh, the programme location
Aceh is a special territory of Indonesia located on the northern tip of the island of Sumatra. It was the closest point of land to the epicenter of the massive 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake, which triggered a tsunami that devastated much of the western coast of the region, including part of the capital of Banda Aceh. 226,000 Indonesians were killed or went missing in the disaster, and approximately 500,000 were left homeless,] with these casualties particularly pronounced in Aceh.
Kinderhut Village is located about 17 kms away from the Iskander International Airport, Banda Aceh. It lies in the Indrapuri village that is predominantly muslim populated.
What Kinderhut will provide student volunteers on site:
1) Boarding and lodging, including breakfast, lunch and dinner at Kinderhut Village
2) Assistance in your projects by various staff and project manager
3) A complete introduction to the project at the project site itself
4) Transfer from the Banda Aceh International Airport to/from Kinderhut Village
5) A local sim card to get in touch with your loved ones
6) A translator who will help you in interacting with the inmates
7) A certificate of appreciation from the organization for your valuable contributions
Costs to be borne by the student volunteer:
1) Travel (to Banda Aceh and back) and visa costs
2) Any extra meals or personal purchases
3) Any expenses for sight seeing/excursions outside the project site.
Student Volunteer Programme duration:
Kinderhut International expects the volunteer to spend at least 4 - 6 weeks at the project site in Banda Aceh, Indonesia.
