10 March 2023, Dubai, United Arab Emirates – The International Humanitarian City (IHC) in Dubai has successfully facilitated another humanitarian relief flight in response to the earthquake in Turkiye and Syria earlier this week. Guided by the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the IHC is committed to supporting affected communities with the resources they need to recover and rebuild.

A Damascus-bound flight, transporting relief items for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), departed from Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai, carrying 29 tons of aid, including blankets and solar lamps, to support 36,000 beneficiaries affected by the earthquake.

In the wake of the devastating earthquake in Turkiye and Syria, and as of the first week of March, the international organizations and UN agencies hosted in IHC have mobilized and dispatched 67 aid shipments with a total value of USD 13 Million approximately.

The IHC facilitated two airbridges of 13 airlifts through its own Global Humanitarian Impact Fund (GHIF) and, in partnership with Emirates, dispatching more than 300 MT of aid for international organizations it hosts, including the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Food Programme (WFP), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

The ongoing humanitarian response highlights the importance of collaboration and coordination among international partners to address the urgent needs of affected communities. Meanwhile, in 2023, the IHC community has already dispatched aid from their prepositioned stocks in Dubai to more than 50 countries.  Back in 2022, the IHC directly supported multiple humanitarian responses through the GHIF, including emergencies in Ukraine, Afghanistan, Sudan, Libya, and Somalia.

As the pioneering global humanitarian hub, the IHC continues to leverage its extensive network and resources to support the humanitarian community for fast humanitarian response, better emergency preparedness, and more sustainable humanitarian action.
