International Humanitarian City (IHC) has recently conducted a meeting with representatives from Oxfam, the movement dedicated to fighting poverty, wherein the two parties agreed to cooperate and organise future partnerships in the fields of humanitarian services and climate change to reduce people damages & poverty. Oxfam also committed to support the IHC’s humanitarian programs and help develop the expertise and capabilities of IHC staff who are working in humanitarian fields.

The meeting was attended by Ms. Makiya Al Hajiri, IHC CEO, and Mrs. Barbara Stocking, Chief Executive of Oxfam. The meeting was also in line with IHC’s continuing thrust to seek mutually beneficial partnership opportunities with international humanitarian institutions.

“IHC’s partnership with Oxfam serves as an important step towards achieving our ultimate goal of providing local and international humanitarian services and reach out to as many people as possible. Specifically, we aim to collaborate and share ideas with Oxfam in the field of humanitarian services and climate change,” said Miss. Makiya Al Hajiri.

Commenting on the occasion, Stocking said, “We have witnessed tremendous humanitarian efforts by IHC and we intend to complement IHC’s future campaigns by sharing our expertise and helping them identify new opportunities to further boost humanitarian services.”

IHC has taken a proactive stance in fighting climate change, particularly in view of its devastating impact on the lives of underprivileged people. IHC revealed that the negative impact of climate change has been more pronounced among the poorest areas around the world, affecting crop harvests, water supplies and causing unprecedented floods.

Oxfam is a confederation of 14 like-minded organisations working together with partners and allies around the world to bring about lasting change within the lives of poor people. Oxfam works directly with communities and seeks to influence powerful individuals and global institutions to ensure that poor people can improve their lives and livelihoods and have a say in decisions that affect them.

International Humanitarian City is an independent free-zone authority created by the Dubai Government to provide local and international humanitarian groups and individuals with facilities and services specifically designed to meet their needs. IHC co-locates non-profit and commercial organisations to facilitate the sharing of best practices and consequently improve operational efficiencies and institutional learning. The City highlights the UAE’s active pursuit of stronger regional and global partnerships in humanitarian services.
