UAE to ‘STAND UP’ to end poverty and inequality

On October 16th and 17th, millions of people around the world will “Stand Up and Speak Out” in support of the UNMC Millennium Development Goals committing to end poverty and inequality by the year 2015.

In UAE, organizers expect that thousands of children, men and women from various institutions and organizations will pledge their support to eradicating poverty and inequality as they “Stand Up” for 2 minutes in their own locations and send in their numbers to make a Guinness World Record breaking last year’s record of 23.25 million people who “Stood Up” on the same day.

Organised by the United Nation’s Development Program (UNDP) along with IAHV and the Art of Living, the “Stand Up and Speak Out” Campaign comes with the special endorsement of HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, UN Messenger of Peace and the International Humanitarian City (IHC).

In UAE, participants are invited to organize “Stand Up and Speak Out” Events in their institutions and organizations by sending an email with their names, contact details and number of people “Standing Up” to standupuae@gmail.com. From 6 pm on Tuesday, 16th evening to 2 pm on Wednesday, the 17th afternoon, “Stand Up Events” can happen all over the country. According to organizers, authentic documentation of the mini-event is vital for its inclusion in the final count for the world record.

Participants are required to send in a digital photograph of the event along with a signed and stamped reporting form back to the organizers before 3 pm on Wednesday, 17th October. For more details call 04-3680219 or 050-4520969.
